Trends in Dental Restoratives

Mark Agre received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2015. After graduation, he began working at 3M Oral Care as a Product Developer, specializing in composites, glass ionomers, and liner/bases. Mark’s time as a Product Developer included the launch of a new composite called 3M™ Filtek™ Universal Restorative. In 2019, Mark transitioned to a technical applications role where he supports composites, adhesives, curing lights, and glass ionomers. Mark has experience lecturing and providing training to dentists, group practices, and DSOs, and enjoys sharing in-depth product knowledge to help solve customer problems. In his free time, Mark enjoys traveling, hiking, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Arresting Carious Lesions, the New Normal 1 ce

Dr. Carrera received her DDS in 2003 from the University of Talca, Chile. Upon completion of her dental training she became a faculty member at the University of Talca. In 2008 she completed her specialty in Oral Rehabilitation. During her time as a faculty member (2003 to 2011) she coordinated and instructed several dental courses and she drove initiatives to improve education. Dr. Carrera also maintained a local clinical dental practice with focus on high caries risk patients and complex clinical cases. In 2016 she graduated from the Oral Biology doctorate program from the University of Minnesota, USA. Her research focused on secondary caries and the impact of oral biofilms on restoration failure as well as the development of oral biofilm models, mechanical testing of dental materials, and microcomputer tomography characterization for diverse applications, such as tooth mineral content analysis and dental restoration leakage studies.

Dr. Carrera has over 20 publications including peer-reviewed articles, conference papers and book chapters, as well as numerous scientific presentations and lectures. She is an active member of the International Association of Dental Research and the American Academy of Cariology. She currently works at 3M Oral Care as a senior research specialist where she is a product developer for new dental products.

Dr. Rick Ferguson

Additive Manufacturing



Dr. Ferguson has been involved in teaching implant dentistry for the last 20 years and has lectured in every major city in the United States as well as internationally in Saudi Arabia, UK, India, Argentina, Taiwan, South Korea, Jamaica, Antigua, China and the Bahamas. Dr. Ferguson has placed and restored over 5000 dental implants and maintains a private practice with his wife Dr. Katherine Ferguson in Davie, FL emphasizing dental implants and where they also teach a live surgery course. Dr. Ferguson has mentored over 100 doctors on all phases of implant dentistry by traveling to their offices to give them and their staff personalized training.

Understanding the New Periodontal Classification

A classification scheme for periodontal and peri-implant disease and conditions is necessary for clinicians to properly diagnose, refer and treat patients. This lecture will help clinicians understand the 2018 classification of periodontal disease and conditions developed by the American Academy of Periodontology in coordination with the European Federation of Periodontology.


About the Speaker:


LTC Eduardo A.DeCardona grew up in Aguadilla, PR and received a BS in Biology from UPR- Aguadilla (2004), and a DMD from UPR School of Dental Medicine (2008). After completing OBC, he attended the 1-yr AEGD program in Fort Benning, GA. Upon completion of the program he was assigned to 215th CMC 3HBC 1CAV as a Brigade Dentist. He completed two deployments to Fob Marez in Mosul (2009) in support of OIF and to COS Gary Owen in Al-Amarah, Iraq (2011) in support of OND, receiving the Combat Medical Badge. LTC DeCardona received his graduate certificate in Periodontics from the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics at Fort Gordon, GA and an MS in Oral Biology from GRU-Augusta (2015). After residency, LTC DeCardona served as Chief of Periodontics, OIC at Fairbank DC and Assistant Periodontics mentor at the 2-yr AEGD program in Fort Hood, TX (2015-2018). Following his second rotation at Fort Hood, LTC DeCardona moved to Germany where he served as Chief of Periodontics and Infection Control Officer at Pulaski DC, Germany from 2018-2021. Currently, LTC DeCardona is the OIC and Chief of Periodontics at Chambers DC, Fort Bliss, TX. Next year he will become the Periodontics Mentor at the Fort Bliss 1-yr AEGD.

Jen Post, RDH, MDH

Jen is a 1999 graduate of the University of South Dakota with degrees in Nursing, Psychology and Dental Hygiene. Jen received her master’s degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Minnesota in 2013. She was previously an adjunct professor of dental hygiene at the University of Minnesota where she lectured, worked hands on with dental, dental therapy and dental hygiene students and conducted research. She has been a licensed dental hygienist in Minnesota since 1999.

Jen joined 3M in 2016 and is currently a Clinical Applications Specialist for the Prevention Lab within 3M Oral Care where she assures that products are useful and practical for dental professionals.
